"Exploring Turkey" is an educational trip across a country that has seen many civilizations over time.
We look at the rich history of Turkey starting in the capital, Ankara, before heading to the ruins of the Hittite civilization.
Next, we travel to the region of Cappadocia. It is geologically beautiful with white cone chimneys that extend for miles. Many of these chimneys have, over time, become homes and churches.
We visit a pottery maker, a rug factory, and see a demonstration of Turkish music and dancing.
In Istanbul, we visit the Hagia Sofia, the Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, the Great Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar. A boat ride up the Bosphorus allows us to see Istanbul from the European and Asian sides.
Leaving Istanbul, we travel along the Gallipoli Peninsula learning of its World War I history.
There is a visit to the ruins of Troy, Pergamum and Ephesus.
Setting sail along the Turkish coast, we stop at the Greek Island of Patmos where St. John wrote Revelations. We end our tour in the ancient city of Bodrum.
This DVD gives a look at the history, geology, culture, music, crafts, and people of Turkey. Length 52 minutes.
